Pakistan holidays and pay 2024
Pakistan’s public/festival holidays and weekly rest days come under the Factories legislation, the Shop and Establishments legislation and Standing Orders legislation. Under these legislations, public/festival holidays are paid holidays for employees. Subsequently, if an employer asks their employee to work on a public holiday, they will be given compensatory holidays. If not, the employer is obligated to provide three times the ordinary rate of pay. However, if a holiday falls on a Sunday, no substitute will be provided. Employers are also obligated to announce the public/festival holiday information to their employees at the beginning of the calendar year.
It is extremely important for employers and employees alike to acknowledge and understand the rights and responsibilities they hold. While it is necessary for employers to adhere to the laws as by the government, employees are also expected to be aware of these laws and understand the terms of their employment contract.
