Devolution of EOBI and WWF Sought - July 20, 2011

While Federal Government has retained departments like Employees Old Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) and Workers Welfare Fund (WWF), even after abolition of concurrent legislative list (of which labour was one part), the Sindh Government in a letter to the editor has termed it as unconstitutional and in contravention of article 270AA (clauses 8 and 9). The Sindh Government is also of the view that federal government should have devolved all subjects in concurrent legislative list (and their relevant components) by 30th June 2011. However, the Federal Government has withheld EOBI and WWF, institutions with huge assets, at central level and assigned these to Inter-Provincial Coordination Division.
