National Policy for HomeBased Workers - October 26, 2011

According to a latest news report, most of the homebased women workers are paid less than Rs. 40 per day for more than 12 hours work. According to the HomeNet, there are around 7 million workers which fall in the category of homebased workers however labor laws in the country are not applicable to these workers. Before its devolution, Ministry of Labour and Manpower, was working on the National Policy for HomeBased Workers however the fate of this policy is not clear, as labor has become a provincial subject. Provincial assemblies of all provinces except Sindh have approved this national policy. HomeNet has demanded Federal Bureau of Statistics to compile data on homebased workers so that they can be organized.
