Search for Overseas Employment for Unemployed Pakistanis - November 18, 2011

As the unemployment rate is soaring in the country, the government has decided to increase the export of manpower to the Arab States and European countries in order to curb the high unemployment. Ministry of Human Resource Development, successor of Ministry of Labor and Manpower, is busy these days in preparation of policy on human resources while ministry of foreign affairs and foreign missions are being engaged in the process of exploring avenues for youth employment overseas. The overseas employment agents generally complain that Pakistani embassies abroad are quite “non-cooperative” in facilitating the youth employment overseas. Ministry of HRD has planned to approach Canada and Australia for potential export of manpower while delegations from the Ministry have already visited Kuwait, Turkey and China for expanding the employment base in these markets. A policy is being devised by the Ministry while taking into confidence various stakeholders including Ministry of Foreign Affairs, overseas employment agents, foreign missions and airlines. (Ministry of HRD should focus on Community Welfare Attaches, working in the around 12 countries and whose primary job function is the promotion of overseas employment)
