Promotion of Self-Employment for Youth in Punjab - August 25, 2011

Punjab Government is planning to start a Rs. 1 billion (for fiscal year 2011-12) scheme for giving out loans in order to promote self-employment among youth. The Punjab government is planning to initiate this scheme in the 36 districts of the Province. Skilled youth would be given preference for getting loans under this scheme and the maximum limit of loans would be fifty thousand rupees.

This scheme would not only create job opportunities for youth but would also generate the much-needed economic activity. The other scheme for job generation in Punjab is Yellow Cab Scheme.

The Punjab Small Industries Corporation would distribute these loans through Akhuwat, a microfinance providing interest free credit access to marginalized families.
