NCHD Employees Protest against their Impending Job Loss - June 23, 2011

As Government is disbanding many organizations at national level under 18th constitutional amendment, National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) is also being devolved to provinces by June 30th 2011.

As Government is disbanding many organizations at national level under 18th constitutional amendment, National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) is also being devolved to provinces by June 30th 2011. NCHD was an attached department of Ministry of Education and came under the subject of Education. As Education is no longer in a federal or concurrent legislative list, it is now the responsibility of individual provinces to ensure education for their masses. NCHD has total 16,000 employees and they fear job loss on June 30th as Senate has approved the disbandment of NCHD because three provinces, except Sindh, were not willing to absorb the NCHD employees. In view of this situation, several hundred NCHD employees have staged sit-ins near parliament for some days. However, Police busted their protest once they tried to cross fence and march to the Parliament House.
